About the opportunity

The University of Sydney's Faculty of Dentistry has been training dental practitioners for over a hundred years. The Faculty offers a rigorous research and training program and produces research scholars of international standing and highly skilled general practice and specialist clinicians.

We are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Oral Surgery to join the faculty. This exciting and innovative appointment - based in Nepean Hospital - offers an outstanding opportunity to exercise academic coordination, to participate in a specialist Oral Surgery training program and to lead commercial opportunities to enhance the research and teaching endeavours of the faculty. The successful candidate will also be able to develop a strong hospital-based specialist practice.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • lead and contribute to the teaching and research supervision of the Postgraduate Specialist Training Program in Oral Surgery
  • oversee all research and administrative activities
  • work closely with NSW Health and local health districts and other strategic partners to enhance the provision of academic and service leadership within the field of oral surgery
  • collaborate with researchers and teachers from other disciplines within the University, such as the Sydney School of Public Health, nursing and other related fields of medicine to increase and promote research and teaching synergies
  • continue your research into matters impacting oral surgery on a national and international scale.

About you

  • dental qualification registerable in Australia
  • specialist registration in Oral Surgery recognised in Australia
  • a research record showing understanding of and experience in clinical and research governance and in particular evidence of actively engaging in research in the clinical setting
  • demonstrable teaching experience in a university or educational setting and ability to demonstrate clinical procedures at a specialist level
  • experience in clinical supervision and the treatment of a wide spectrum of Oral Surgery patients will also be required
  • knowledge of problem-based learning
  • capacity to devise research projects and to contribute to referred journals and literature in dental clinical education
  • demonstrable experience in the management and enhancement of a clinical and academic team
  • desire and capacity to mentor staff internally
  • demonstrable management skills with experience in secondary care teams
  • experience in interacting with students and facilitating student learning
  • postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related area.
