Times Higher Education is seeking an experienced reporter to join an award-winning publication with an expanding national and international audience.

The successful candidate will be tasked with reporting on and telling the stories behind the globally influential world university rankings, which attract millions of readers and make global headlines, touching on every aspect of higher education, from funding to research to politics. 

Their reporting brief will also cover the related areas of internationalisation and leadership. They will also deliver regular in-depth interviews with senior figures at some of the world’s top universities as well as curating newsletter and social media content.

The role will also include coverage of breaking news and exclusive stories which capture readers’ attention at home and abroad and there will be the opportunity to write long-form features offering definitive takes on key talking points in higher education today.

Who you are

We are seeking a journalist with at least two years’ experience writing for a respected news outlet, who can demonstrate a strong track record in writing news stories and in-depth interviews. They will have experience in data journalism and be able to find angles in spreadsheets and turn them into news stories and longer analysis pieces. They’ll also be comfortable interviewing senior university leaders be adept at representing THE among university staff and the wider higher education community. Prior experience covering education or research would be an advantage but is not essential.
