Be a part of the University of Southampton, an institution in the top 80 universities worldwide* and one of the UK’s top 16 research-intensive universities. We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities.

We are looking for a Research Fellow to work closely with the international quality of survival (QoS) lead and data coordinator in European paediatric neuro-oncology randomised controlled treatment trials to undertake high quality data management activities related to QoS data and statistical analysis on collected data. You will be based within the Faculty of Medicine at University Hospital Southampton.

The Faculty of Medicine specialises in Cancer Sciences (CS), Clinical and Experimental Sciences (CES), Human Development and Health (HDH) and Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education (PPM).

The measurement of QoS in trials of treatments for paediatric brain tumours is essential to assess the differential impact on children’s outcomes. Measuring QoS on a European scale is challenging, and the aim of this project is to maximise accrual using a web-based patient-reported outcomes portal. You will be expected to work closely with the QoS lead to manage data exports and related SPSS databases and syntax files to prepare the data for statistical analysis.

A high level of competence with SPSS is essential, as is a high level of accuracy and an eye for detail, required to work with large data sets. You will join a European wide research group in the area of paediatric brain tumour trials with a keen focus on QoS. You will also be a member of the Clinical Neurosciences research group in the school of Clinical and Experimental Sciences.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This post is suitable for psychologists, statisticians, or data managers with a strong background in quantitative research methods and statistics and is available now.
