Job Description:

The Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS), is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow in medicinal chemistry. The successful candidate will work as an active member of the multi-disciplinary medicinal chemistry group and will assist in the design, planning, implementation, and delivery of currently funded projects with a particular focus on the development of small molecule protease inhibitors.             

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: 

  • Obtained or be about to obtain a relevant PhD
  • At least 3 years’ relevant research experience
  • Experience in design, synthesis and biochemical screening of small molecules
  • Experience in compound data analysis
  • Experience in small molecule SAR exploration
  • Experience in developing protease inhibitors
  • Experience in cell culture and associated assays including downstream bio-marker analysis.

This post is fixed term for up to 18 months. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
