Job Description:

The School of Biological Sciences at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow.

The postholder will be an active member of the research team assisting in the planning and delivery of the research related to spectroscopy based detection of fraud and contamination in the food supply chain.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Obtained or be about to obtain a relevant PhD related to bio-analytical chemistry.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in an academic and/or industrial environment including:
    •  Synthesis of SERS substrates
    • Development of SERS based assays to detect contamination in foods.
  • Experience in laboratory screening methods such as spectroscopic techniques.
  • At least 1 years’ experience in the use of chemometric software and model generation.
  • Practical experience in the validation of analytical methods.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established and new research programmes.

This post is available until 31/10/2024. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
