Zayed University’s College of Interdisciplinary Studies invites applications for Communication and Media faculty within the Social Innovation program. There are multiple positions available across both the Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses. The expected start date is August 2023.

Zayed University has introduced new undergraduate programs in Interdisciplinary Studies that will reshape learning, research, and professional development. Students will learn in an entirely new way, combining the best of several disciplines to prepare them as next-generation leaders in a rapidly changing world. Our programs have been designed to help students step into the world with skills that can be applied to navigate evolving business and enterprise landscapes. As a student-centric program, we focus on learning outcomes, small interactive class sessions, and deep engagement between faculty and students, with feedback given in both directions.

About the Position

The Social Innovation program, within the College of Interdisciplinary Studies, invites applications from faculty with a proven academic record in the broad area of Communication and Media or related fields.  As part of the Social Innovation program, the Communication and Media Specialization takes an interdisciplinary approach to examining communication and media technologies at the nexus of cultural, political, environmental, and economic landscapes. Potential candidates are expected to have an established commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Candidates with expertise in communications; media and data; multimodality and discourse analysis; media storytelling; integrated strategic communication; intercultural communication; digital technology and social change; environmental communication; global media/communication; and development communication economy are particularly encouraged to apply.

As a faculty member, you will provide practical hands-on instruction in an engaging learning environment, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies to enhance our student's learning experience and achieve learning outcomes. Having a record of interdisciplinary research outputs will be an added advantage. Preference will be given to such candidates whose research reflects such an approach.

Faculty are expected to teach each semester and be active researchers. Additionally, faculty will be expected to engage in service to the college and institution as requested. 

About the Social Innovation Program

The Social Innovation program equips students with the knowledge and skills to understand the ways people think and act — individually, in groups, and in societies — and the ways that biology and the environment interact to make each of us unique. Social Innovation students learn how to address complex societal issues through a deep understanding of human behavior within broader social, political, and economic contexts, by leveraging the latest communication strategies and media technologies to articulate and influence social change and innovation. The Social Innovation program offers specializations/concentrations in Communication and Media, Psychology, Political and Economic Systems, Societal Transformation, and Behavioral Economics. 

Qualifications

• Doctorate in a relevant discipline as described above, from an accredited university that is, or can be, equalized by the UAE Ministry of Education.
• Prior experience in undergraduate teaching with evidence of pedagogical excellence
• Evidence of research output
• Ability to adopt innovative teaching methodologies and proven commitment to active learning
• Ability to learn new technology and work in teams in a fast-paced environment

Our monthly total compensation for full-time on-campus faculty includes a competitive base salary, housing allowance, education assistance for dependent children, annual vacation flight ticket, medical insurance for yourself and eligible dependents, end-of-service benefits, and repatriation assistance.
