Job Description:

The School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen’s University, Belfast, is one of the UK's leaders in internationally recognised research and teaching in Politics and International Relations (IR). The School seeks to appoint two Lecturers in IR, to support research and teaching at all levels of the field. International Relations has a diverse and vibrant research culture in the School, and we seek lecturers to enhance and develop our strengths.

The persons appointed will play a central role in all the School’s research and teaching activities, with a specific focus on helping to (a) strengthen and consolidate our undergraduate degree in IR; and (b) advance our MA degrees in International Relations; Violence, Terrorism & Security; Global Security and Borders; and Geopolitics.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have: 

  • A PhD (or very close to completion) in International Relations or cognate subject.
  • A record of publication of high quality research outputs appropriate to stage of career.
  • Evidence of independent contribution in research projects and outputs.
  • Teaching experience commensurate with career stage, including undergraduate or postgraduate teaching, project supervision, assessment and feedback experience.
  • Ability to teach across International Relations, and to enhance and develop our strengths within the School.
  • Evidence of administrative and academic leadership activities as appropriate to norms for Lecturer.
  • Evidence of ability to carry out administrative duties appropriate to post.
