The Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway seeks to appoint two Professors of Law. The successful applicants would be expected to start as soon as possible.
About the role:
Geared towards enhancing the international reputation of Law at Royal Holloway, the role is key to the development and implementation of departmental, School and College research strategies. It will require engagement in high-quality, high-impact research and teaching, leading major research projects, attracting research funding, engaging effectively with external organisations, bodies and opportunities, and supporting colleagues’ practice and development in research.
About you:
Alongside excellent academic credentials and vision for the discipline you will be well suited to this role if you value and can take forward the building of intellectual communities, and creation of opportunities for successful collaborative working both within the department and beyond to, for example, strengthening links with health, psychology and politics in order to create a basis for wider interdisciplinary collaborations.
You will be a confident and inspiring leader who will embrace the opportunity to develop further your leadership skills through playing a full role in the operation and direction of the department. Your leadership experience may have been gained through roles in university, professional or commercial settings but will enable you to provide academic leadership in the design and delivery of high quality, appropriate and innovative teaching programmes at UG and PGT levels, in guiding, supporting and mentoring more junior members of staff, in enhancing external engagement and impact and in playing a key role in supporting the leadership and management activities of the department and College.
About the Department: The Department of Law and Criminology is part of the School of Law and Social Sciences. It is a forward thinking, multidisciplinary and research active department, which offers undergraduate programmes in Law, Criminology & Psychology, Criminology & Sociology and Social Science, together with Masters programmes in Forensic Psychology, Consumption, Culture & Marketing, Social Work and Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies. The Department is also home to an energetic postgraduate research student community and prides itself on its commitment to social justice which is underlined in its teaching, research and external activities.
We are looking to make two senior professorial appointments on a full-time basis to colleagues who would make a distinctive research contribution in an area sympathetic to our inter disciplinary focus and provide effective academic leadership.
We are not looking for any specific area of law but applicants should have a strong national and international reputation in the field, a commitment to building a research community in law and interdisciplinary links, a demonstrated capacity to deliver inspirational teaching to students, and grant income that is commensurate with the level of the position. The successful candidate will support objectives of publishing high-quality outputs, leading international collaborations, and attracting grants to sustain our research clusters’ activities in addition to their own research contribution.
As a professor, the appointed person must be able to provide leadership in the development of the Department and School, and to engage with College priorities and external networks.
In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:
- Generous annual leave entitlement
- Training and Development opportunities
- Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
- Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
- Free parking
