The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Associate/Assistant Professor in Western Philosophy.The area of research specialty (AoS) is open, and we welcome multiple approaches within Western philosophy. The Department has specific teaching needs in logic and critical thinking; it would be an advantage for the candidates to be able to teach courses in epistemology and metaphysics and/or history of western philosophy and/or political and moral philosophy and/or philosophy of science.

The academic staff of the recently established UM Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies comprise an international team of renowned and innovative scholars. The department participates actively in the University-wide General Education programme and offers PhD supervision across the range of the department’s expertise in both Eastern and Western philosophical and religious traditions and methodologies.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD in Philosophy, or in a related area and are expected to have an international research profile and strong publication record, commensurate with their career stage, in their area of research expertise within Western Philosophy. Applicants should also have an excellent record of tertiary teaching and supervision experience, again commensurate with their career stage. Fluency in English is expected and fluency in Chinese would be an advantage.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2023.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP828,100.00 (approximately USD102,230.00) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Apart from competitive remuneration, UM offers a wide range of benefits, such as medical insurance, provident fund, on-campus accommodation/housing allowance and other subsidies.
