College Profile:
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses nine departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences, including English Literature & Linguistics, Arabic Language, Humanities, History, Sociology, Social Work, International Affairs, Mass Communication, Psychology, Policy, Planning & Development, Mathematics, Statistics & Physics, Chemistry, Biological & Environmental Sciences, and Material Sciences. The College offers five Master's Programs in Arabic Language & Literature, Gulf Studies, Applied Statistics, Environmental Science, Materials Science & Technology, and two PhD programs in  Biological & Environmental Sciences and Gulf Studies. The College also offers a Program of Arabic for Non-Native Speakers. 

As members of QU, CAS faculty have excellent opportunities to secure intramural and extramural funding for their research ideas. Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is a major source of research funding, with individual project funding reaching up to $600,000 per project and up to 5 million for exceptional projects. Faculty can also apply for undergraduate and graduate students' research funding programs. As the national and largest University in the country, Qatar University is the recipient of most QNRF awards, with many research-active faculty members able to win multiple grants.

Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences Profile:
The "Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences" consists of two programs, Chemistry and Geology. The B.Sc. degree program in chemistry has been accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), Since 2009. The department currently is a home of more than 50 staff members (30 full-time faculty members with expertise in all areas of chemistry, eight teaching assistants, and 14 technicians). We strive to build a generation equipped with the knowledge, competence, and modern and comprehensive education in chemistry. The department currently has more than 200 students. In addition, it offers courses in various programs at Qatar University, including Biology, Environmental Science, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, Human Nutrition, Medicine, and Pharmacy. The department is facilitated with a wide range of modern instrumentation, including ICP-MS, LC-MS, GC-MS, and UV and IR spectrophotometers. The department has been collaborating with both the national and international communities as the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC, UK), the American Chemical Society (ACS, USA), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in numerous aspects, Fields of collaboration include: organizing symposiums and public lectures and by hosting workshops and symposia together with other international communities. The faculty members are active in teaching and research, and several have been awarded major funding from the Qatar National Research Fund.
        
Duties & Responsibilities         
        

  1.  Teach courses in the areas of Inorganic Chemistry & General Chemistry.
  2. Write research proposals and initiate high-quality research in the area of applied Inorganic Chemistry.
  3. Contribute to various committees at the Program, College, and University levels.
  4. Contribute to the College's research profile by establishing a research program and publications.
  5. Contribute to developing new curricula and research areas;
  6. Participate in enhancing the international visibility of QU through participation in international scientific events and building collaborations with worldwide peer academic institutions.
  7. The Head of the Department assigns other responsibilities.

        
Qualifications         
        

  1.  Ph.D. in Chemistry/ Specialty: Inorganic Chemistry from a recognized/ranked university.
    Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in research and publication records in applied Inorganic Chemistry. 
  2. Specific areas of research interests include, but are not limited to, energy, environment, or sustainability. We seek candidates specializing in subfields including, but not limited to, the experimental and computational research of new materials for energy conversion and storage, greenhouse gas utilization, capture and conversion, catalysis development, fossil fuel decarbonization, or metal-organic framework. Along with the research above, candidates with multidisciplinary approaches, such as computational materials, molecular modeling techniques, and especially machine learning for sustainable materials discovery, are highly encouraged to apply. 
  3. Teaching experience in both theory and laboratory classes for at least three years after the PhD.
  4. Experience with classroom implementation of student-centered pedagogies, including utilization of advanced technology in teaching.
  5. The ability to attract external and internal funding.
  6. Commitment to working with teams. 
  7. Awareness of working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. The ability to communicate in Arabic is an advantage.
