The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) houses nine departments, covering a wide range of undergraduate specializations in the Arts and Sciences including English Literature and Linguistics, Arabic Language, Mass Communication, History, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, International Affairs, Policy, Planning and Development, Statistics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. The College also houses Master Programs, which are M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences, M.A. in Gulf Studies, M.A. in Arabic Language and Literature, M.Sc. in Materials Science and Technology, and M.Sc. in Applied Statistics. In addition to a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Gulf Studies. Additionally, the College offers a Program of Arabic for Non- Native Speakers. Also, there are two established research centers namely the Center for Sustainable Development and the Gulf Studies Center.

It is worth mentioning that as members of Qatar University, CAS faculty members have excellent opportunities to secure internal and external funding for their research ideas. Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) is major source of research funding, with individual project funding limit exceeding 600,000$ per project  along with student research funding programs. As the national and largest University in the country, Qatar University is the recipient of most of QNRF awards, with many research- active faculty members able to win multiple grants.
        
Duties & Responsibilities  
      
        
The Department of English Literature and Linguistics invites applications for a position of Assistant professor in Writing. The candidate must have a PhD with a specialization in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or Writing Studies at the time of application, as well as post-graduate teaching experience. Additional qualifications in L2 Writing, Applied Linguistics, or TESOL are welcome. The candidate will be expected to teach introductory and advanced composition courses, as well as a broad range of undergraduate writing courses. 

Additional responsibilities include contributing to the university core curriculum; supervising graduation projects; contributing to various committees at the Department, College, and University levels; contributing to the research profile of the College through innovative and interdisciplinary research publications; being an active member in the department, college, and university communities; and other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Department.

The Department of English Literature and Linguistics is committed to familiarizing students with the genre and conventions of academic writing. The writing courses aim to introduce students to writing as a process and develop students’ critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, research skills and decision-making. 

The ideal candidate must demonstrate experience and effectiveness in the following categories: teaching first-year college writing courses and advanced composition courses, use of technology in teaching and research; establishing and/or maintaining state-of-the-art research facilities; academic advising and program development; innovative scholarship and professional activities; and effective institutional and/or community service. Candidates with a stronger teaching record can be considered for a teaching track position.
 
        
Qualifications         
        

  1. PhD in English Rhetoric and Composition, TESOL, Applied Linguistics or Writing Studies from a reputable and recognized institution. 
  2. Specialization in TESOL, TEFL and EAP are welcome.
  3. Experience in teaching first-year college writing courses and advanced composition courses  
  4. An international standard research record with publishing in Q1 journals in the field.
  5. A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, following the PhD Degree
  6. Familiarity with educational technologies used in higher education
  7. Willingness to work with teams and with people from diverse backgrounds
  8. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

However, if no course work was completed, a copy of the certificate letter from the registrar of your highest credential granting institution regarding your highest academic degree).
