About You

You are good at multi-tasking and prioritising demanding workload to meet conflicting deadlines. You will be analytical with the ability to extract insights from data to present actionable information and informed decision making.

Equally important will be your strong communications skills and ability to build and manage effective relationships with a wide range of internal, including the ability to influence to achieve outcomes.

Position Purpose

The position is responsible for the provision of high-level policy services to the University community including advice, guidance, and co-ordination of the policy review cycle.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide high-level advice and guidance to staff on policy development, interpretation, approval processes, and implementation, in order to embed good policy practice.
  • Coordinate the policy review cycle.
  • Develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the interrelationships between the University's various policies, procedures and supporting materials in order to provide advice to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the identification, development, and implementation of improvements to systems, processes, and protocols that support the centralised policy framework including new policy development, review cycles, and updates.
  • Manage the Policy Central system and supporting systems, and ensure that information is current, accurate, and complies with the University's policy framework.
  • Respond to inquiries on a range of policy-related issues in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Undertake research/benchmarking, provide relevant statistics, and prepare recommendations and reports to provide solutions to policy gaps and issues.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key internal stakeholders.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent relevant knowledge, training, and experience.
  • Advanced computer skills including data management systems, Microsoft Office, internet.
  • Understanding of the higher education environment.
  • Interpreting and applying legislative and business requirements, rules and regulations in the development of policy and procedures.
  • Managing complex tasks within deadlines.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, including at a senior level.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working in a team environment and autonomously.

  • Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent relevant knowledge, training and experience
  • Extensive experience in a large and complex organisation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, policy development and implementation
  • Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships
  • High level organisational and time-management skills with proven accuracy and attention to detail
  • Highly proficient skills in the standard Office software and databases.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of policy development and management systems.
