The School of Biosciences & Medicine is at an exciting stage of its development; having recently expanded its Research requirements, we are looking to recruit a senior laboratory technician to take on and support our expanding Virology laboratory’s.

Working within a team of technical staff, you will provide frontline technical support for three Virology labs and 6 research groups. The ideal candidate for this post will be a highly motivated experienced laboratory technician with a wide range of laboratory-based support knowledge and the ability to prioritise and manage an ever-changing workload.

The ideal candidate will either have or be willing to gain a radiation protection supervisor qualification and undertake associated training and provide support in this area.

Alongside this job it is expected, with the support of the laboratory manager, to assist in delivering safe, effective lab management of the designated laboratory within the department, so a strong understanding of laboratory health & safety is very important. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratories and any associated technical staff.

You will work closely with students, academics and members of the wider Faculty technical team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the laboratories and associated services across the School.

Adhering to current health and safety legislation, and best practice at all times, you will be very well organised, practical and diligent. You will also be a strong communicator and prepared to work flexibly.

In addition to your salary, a generous annual leave entitlement and relocation provision where appropriate. Our benefits package also includes an exclusive discounted membership package to the Surrey Sports Park and an on-site nursery.
