About The Student Support Services Directorate:

As part of the wider portfolio of the Chief Operating Officer & Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Student Support Services Directorate (SSSD) provides students with support services to promote student engagement in university life; to provide opportunities for the development of student leadership; and to provide opportunities for students to develop graduate attributes making them career ready professionals. The Student Support Services Directorate is responsible for supporting student associations including the ACU National Student Association (ACUNSA), the Postgraduate Association (PGA), and clubs and societies. SSSD is also responsible for the delivery of university-wide initiatives that comply with regulatory and statutory requirements, such as Respect. Now. Always. (RNA) and Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults. The Director Student Support Services manages and leads the professional support services for students which are delivered across the University. These services aim to provide every student with opportunities to assist them with achieving their academic and personal goals. Student support is available through the following service areas: Careers and Employability Service; Counselling Service; Access and Disability Service; Student Life; Student Advocacy Service.

About Career Development Service:

The Careers and Employability service aims to equip students with the necessary skills to develop their employability and become career ready; that is, acquiring the knowledge, skills, attributes, reflective disposition and growth mindset to succeed throughout their professions. Through professional development and experiences, Careers and Employability enables students to explore, understand and communicate their unique value, make informed decisions and develop resilience to navigate change in order to make a positive contribution to society through their chosen field. Career Advisors develop and facilitate professional development in the form of events, workshops, professional development programs, resources, entrepreneurial programs, competitions, and provide career advice through consultations. Careers and Employability actively seeks to develop partnerships with, and support faculties, in the development and delivery of career development education within curriculum. In addition, Career Advisors connect and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as ACU Alumni and other student support services of ACU, industry representatives, employers, community organisations, global career networks, and professional associations such as NAGCAS (National Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Service) and AAGE (Australian Association of Graduate Employers).

About the role:

As National Manager, Careers and Employability, manage and oversee the planning, coordination and delivery of a range of career development programs, activities and services to students consistent with the Mission and the strategic goals of the university. Working collaboratively across the Student Support Services Directorate, Faculties, Schools and units within the university, the role provides and coordinates specialist programs and advice on matters relating to student careers and employability to encourage a sense of belonging in an inclusive and diverse community; engage the ACU community in its commitment to justice, equity and the common good; and foster students' social, cultural, intellectual and spiritual wellbeing. Through the supervision of campus-based careers staff, you will work closely with key stakeholders to provide proactive support for students to thrive during their time at ACU and in their careers following graduation.

You will need to have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and significant careers and employability experience preferably within the tertiary sector.
  • Demonstrated management experience in leading, supervising and developing staff.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the delivery of careers and employability including the development and implementation of career and employability programs, preferably within the tertiary environment.
  • An excellent knowledge of the graduate employment market and demonstrated experience in employer liaison.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, develop, implement and review services and programs, policies and procedures, aligning these with strategic goals.
  • Capacity to demonstrate high-level analytical and problem-solving ability in a complex and demanding environment.
  • A proven track record of ethical practice standards as required by the Professional Standards for Australia - Careers Development Practitioners.
  • High-level oral, interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to produce clear and succinct reports and documents.

This position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and/or Working with Vulnerable People Check (WWVP) (ACT only).

Total remuneration valued to $141,824 - $151,333 total rem (pro rata) pa, including salary component $119,861 - $127,988 (pro rata) pa (HEW 9), employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
