The Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement at Edinburgh Napier University works in collaboration with academic colleagues, students and professional services to inspire and support the development of learning and teaching practices across all schools, with the intention of enhancing the student learning experience.

As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain our strong record of research and innovation in staff development and student partnerships, as well as supporting broader pedagogical scholarship, we are currently recruiting an Associate Professor to play a lead role in curriculum development and enhancement - a key strategic priority for Edinburgh Napier.

The Role:

This role will allow you to use your knowledge and experience of curriculum design to provide specific focus on enhancing our institutional assessment and feedback practices. Specifically, you will have the opportunity to work closely with programme teams across the schools in their curriculum (re)design to support the development of programmes that are inclusive, and evidence informed. 

DLTE sits centrally in the institution and plays a key role in driving strategic change through the University’s curricula and through its support of the reward and recognition of staff L&T practices. We anticipate that your expertise will allow you to contribute to, and shape our ongoing work and you will have the opportunity of leading on key L&T strategic projects. This role will also give you the opportunity to engage in meaningful research projects, leading to the production of high-quality research outputs/outcomes. 

Furthermore, you will be encouraged to maintain and develop your external networks to inform and support your role in advancing academic practices.

What we will need from you:

As Associate Professor, you will be an academic leader delivering high-quality, student-centred teaching, underpinned by academic scholarship (research, knowledge exchange or professional practice). Specific requirements are:

  • A doctoral level qualification or its equivalent 
  • Recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academic (preferably SFHEA or PFHEA)
  • Expertise in curriculum design with evidence of impact
  • Evidence of leading pedagogical innovation 
  • Expertise in Assessment and Feedback practices
  • Evidence of working with students in curriculum design
  • Demonstrable evidence of a high standard of communication, facilitation and academic leadership skills
  • An established record of accomplishment in a research area which will inform the focus of the post
