The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, Cyber Range Training Centre, the User Experience (UX) Designer will plan and design the cyber range training centre platform for cyber attack simulation exercises and web page user interfaces including graphic elements and navigation components for an engaging user experience. The position will also research and analyse user requirements and behaviours through cyber focus groups, map the user journeys and pathways, review and update user interface design and collaborate with the Senior Software Developer and the software/web developer to improve the usability and functionality of websites.

About the Project

The NSW Government is funding the establishment of two pilot Institutes of Applied Technology (IATs) to provide an entirely new form of Australian higher education institution which will deliver fully integrated theoretical and practical employability skills. One of these is the state-of-the-art IAT-Digital Tech at Meadowbank with Macquarie University, Microsoft, UTS and TAFE NSW collaborating on designing, building and delivering courses.

Macquarie University is leading the implementation of the Cyber Security signature discipline with a distinctive and unique cross-disciplinary curriculum within a live cyber range facility. This cyber range facility will also deliver customisable training which can be tailored to different skills and expertise levels in online, physical face-to-face and blended/hybrid modes.

About You

You will have extensive experience in web user experience and the capability to apply user behaviour data and information to create innovative designs and interfaces. You will have delivered successful user experiences on multiple platforms and have designed visually appealing, user-focused web pages.

You will have excellent communication and collaboration skills, coupled with strong analytical and technical skills. You will need to be agile with the ability to build rapport and manage effective relationships with diverse groups of partners and stakeholders.

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent extensive experience in web UX design, visual design or related discipline and/or extensive experience
  • Advanced understanding of user-centric design approaches, interaction design standards and methodology
  • Knowledge of HTML, XHTML, CSS design, cross browser and cross platform compatibility, Access, MySQL and JavaScript
  • Experience designing, conducting and analysing research, particularly usability and IA testing
  • Experience in creating storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps
  • Experience working on large scale projects and delivering to tight deadlines
  • Experience applying user behaviour data and information to create innovative designs and interfaces
  • Confident using Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator with Sketch and Invision
