About the Role

The Lecturer: Environmental Science will be responsible for the development, delivery and coordination of courses within STEM’s undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programs and for contributing to STEM’s research agenda. The position will contribute independently and as part of a team to support STEM’s teaching and research outcomes in the Environmental Science discipline with a particular focus on Environmental Health / Environmental Chemistry / Microbiology and will carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly research and/or professional activities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the design and development of engaging, relevant and technology-enhanced curricula for identified programs and courses as they relate to Environmental Science and/or Environmental Health, including Environmental Risk and Remediation, Environmental Chemistry, Microbiology, Disease and Vector Ecology, Biosecurity and Pest Management
  • Effectively undertake administrative duties related to teaching activities of identified courses and programs, including the development of course and program material, if required
  • Undertake course coordination and/or provide leadership to other academic staff in the teaching team
  • Deliver high-quality teaching that is informed by relevant research, scholarship and industry practice and uses the necessary digital techniques required for effective curriculum delivery, as demonstrated via a range of University approved data sources (e.g. student outcomes, student feedback, peer review)
  • Contribute to research and scholarly activity, independently and/or as a member of a team, that results in publications in academic journals and the presentation of conference papers, where appropriate
  • Contribute to research activity through success in national competitive grants and/or obtaining government and/or industry funding for research activity

Essential Criteria

  • A doctoral qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Microbiology or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in teaching, including design and preparation of teaching activities and resources, for both service and discipline-specific teaching in the Environmental Health and/or Environmental Science disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research in one or more of the following areas that contribute to UniSA’s research strengths and strategic directions: Environmental Risk and Remediation, Environmental Chemistry, Microbiology, Disease and Vector Ecology, Biosecurity and Pest Management
  • Understanding of and experience in using a range of contemporary teaching methodologies, including digital techniques where appropriate
  • An established record of research publications, student supervision and/or grant acquisition, relative to experience
