Role Description

About the Role

We are seeking an individual with a strong research background in natural resource economics and experience of researching challenges around sustainable, equitable, and resilient water management. The post will support the Centre’s existing research competencies in environmental and agricultural water management, including climate change and environmental impacts, ecosystem services, assessing drought impacts, flood risk management, and developing thought leadership in hydro-economic modelling, the water-energy-food nexus, and environmental economics. You will be expected to conduct high-impact, internationally excellent research; develop a vibrant and sustainable research group by leading and participating in research bid proposals to attract grant funding to support new junior research staff and students; enhance the reputation of the university through multidisciplinary collaboration, and deliver postgraduate-level teaching as part of our existing MSc programmes.

About You

You will have a relevant PhD in natural resource economics. This could be from a broad, or a more sector specific perspective, including environmental, agricultural or water resources management. You will have experience of winning and managing research grants and working in multidisciplinary collaborations with academics and industry. You will have a track record of publishing high impact journal articles and a commitment to scientific rigour. We also expect a passion for solving applied problems and track record of engaging with experts and opinion-formers in academia, industry and government.

About Us

As a specialist postgraduate university, Cranfield’s world-class expertise, large-scale facilities and unrivalled industry partnerships are creating leaders in technology and management globally. Learn more about Cranfield and our unique impact here.

You will be based within the Centre for Water, Environment, and Development which has an international reputation for its transformational research and teaching in the science, engineering and management of water in the municipal, industrial and natural environments. We have been working in water for over 40 years. Our academic and research staff, including scientists, engineers, technologists, policy specialists and social scientists are engaged in delivering postgraduate teaching, research, consultancy and training in an international arena. Our core research activities are focused around eight Communities of Practice (CoPs). This vacancy is relevant to several of these but primarily those on Catchment Management, Water for Food in a Changing Climate and Water Governance and Asset Management. You will also be expected to foster research links with colleagues in other parts of the university including those within the Agrifood and Environment Themes.
