Required Qualifications:

A successful applicant must have a PhD in Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; with a focus on Computational Mechanics or a related field. Applicants are expected to demonstrate extensive research experience in the development of computational solution algorithms for linear, nonlinear mechanics problems, including multiphysics problems. Examples of relevant experience may include:

  • non-linear and multiphysics constitutive modeling, including modeling of ductile and brittle
  • materials, porous materials, composites, or other types of materials
  • development of non-linear and mixed finite element formulation
  • high performance computing algorithms for mechanics problems

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in most of the above-mentioned areas is preferred. In addition, the additional qualifications are preferred:

  • background and experience in data science and machine learning
  • background in geomechanics and computational poromechanics
  • experience in development of formulations based on other computational methods such as boundary element method, discrete element method, etc…

Research project:

The successful applicant will lead a fascinating project aimed at improving the computational efficiency of damage and fracture mechanics algorithms for multi-fracture propagation scenarios in multiphysics conditions with multiscale considerations. The applications of this research extend to several fields, including: geomechanics, biomechanics, mechanical and structural applications, and others. The Research Associate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students. The Research Associate is expected to continuously document research progress in the form of scientific publications to be submitted to reputable journals.

Research Associate Employment at NYUAD:

The terms of employment include highly competitive salary, medical insurance, housing allowance, annual home-leave travel, and educational subsidies for children as well as other benefits.
