About You

As a Flight Training Ground Theory Instructor/Student Coordinator, you will work in two significant operational areas:

Learning & Teaching: Ground theory classes teach students the knowledge to support the practical flying and prepare for the pregulatory examinations in accordance with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). You will be responsible for working within the Flight Training L&T team that delivers course material, assessing students and the supervision of students enrolled in selected courses.

You will require high participation in the continuing reviews of course content and development, delivery, teaching methods (including on-line delivery methods) and methods of students' assessment.

Student Coordination: The instructor will oversee and manage students' progress. This includes the operational interface between the student, the flying schedule and theory delivery timetable. You will also provide students with motivational support, mentoring and general remedial training support.

In addition, you will interact with industry partners external organisations & industry groups.

RMIT is looking for an enthusiastic aviation person who has a passion for teaching, working with students, and caring for them. Furthermore, you will need to be an easygoing person with the ability to negotiate and deal with various internal and external stakeholders.

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

  • Extensive experience delivering Pilot Ground Theory Instruction within the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) or Defence Aviation Safety Authority regulatory requirements for Aircrew operations.
  • Knowledge of the aviation and flight training industry and educational principles.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills relevant to teaching and consultancy environments. This includes effective presentation and facilitation skills, and in the use of flexible teaching methods.
  • Skills and experience in competency-based assessment including developing flight training learning resources, working within Learning Management Systems, and blended learning environments.Ability in ensuring current and contemporary vocational competence meets and/or exceeds the education level being delivered and assessed.
  • Capacity to diagnose learning problems in students, propose and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team.
  • Skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies, preferably experience using a Learning Management System such as CANVAS and extensive use of Microsoft Office 365 suite of products

Mandatory Qualifications and Cards

  • Minimum Commercial Pilot Licence (Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating and ATPL CASA exam credits Preferred)
  • Minimum 500hrs flying experience
  • Current Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40116)
  • AQF6 or above including a Tertiary Qualification
  • Holding a Working with Children check
  • Holding a Department of Defence security access pass (RMIT will support the application for successful applicants)
  • Australian Security Identification Card (ASIC)

About the RMIT Flight Training

RMIT Flight Training is a specialist training unit within RMIT University dedicated to the training of professional pilots at all levels, locally and internationally. RMIT is the holder of an Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) Air Operators Certificate of Approval and has previously been approved by Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and the Oman Directorate General of Civil Aviation Regulation to conduct flight training.

The Flight Training School has trained more than 3,500 commercial pilots including over 1,000 pilots for various International Airlines. RMIT is also provides Pilot Ground Theory training for Australian Defence Forces in partnership with Air Academy based at East Sale. RMIT is growing the aviation programs in Vietnam and continues to attract a substantial cohort of international students every year from Asia Pacific Regions.
