Your broad knowledge of Aotearoa-New Zealand's planning regime will include current planning legislation such as Acts and National Planning Policies. You will have eligibility for membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or a reciprocal institution. You will have a research and scholarship record that is appropriate to the academic position sought and demonstrated success in, or ability to, attract external research funding.

You will have demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching. You will bring your proven ability to communicate effectively with students and staff, along with your commitment to innovative teaching methods. Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Our Environmental Planning programme has been proactive and effective in growing both research income and student numbers, so we are looking for this additional role to join our team to service the growth. The programme has a vibrant student and staff culture, underpinned by the commitment to excellence and demonstrated by student success, research achievements and industry recognition.

The role is required to contribute to the teaching, postgraduate supervision and administration requirements of the Environmental Planning Programme, maintain and develop original scholarship and research, and undertake professional/community/iwi service activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

We require your expert knowledge of Environmental Planning, applied as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.

The four pillars of the role require:

  • Teaching and Learning: Preparing and delivering innovative, research-informed lectures and the assessment of that learning
  • Supervision: Supervise honours, graduate and postgraduate students
  • Research: Build and maintain an active research programme and conduct quality research and contribute to knowledge development of your specialist areas through scholarship and publication
  • Service and Administration: Carry out administration and service relevant to the role

Salary will be in the range of $80,837 - $116,160 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position.

Te Kura Aronui, the School of Social Sciences comprises a number of subjects, including Anthropology, Environmental Planning, Geography, History, International Relations and Security Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work. The School offers a range of papers in social sciences, at undergraduate, post-graduate and professional training levels. Teaching occurs on the Hamilton and the Tauranga Campuses of the University of Waikato.
