We are looking to appoint a new ambitious dynamic Course Leader for our established BA(Hons) Fashion course in the Institute of Jewellery, Fashion and Textiles, within the faculty of Art and Design.
You will be joining a newly appointed management team with an exciting opportunity to develop a future-facing course. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the course, its future development, management, and leadership of a team of lecturers.
Based at the City Centre's modern Parkside Campus, the course attracts a diverse range of creative students with international ambitions and entrepreneurial spirit. Our facilities are second to none with purpose-built machine rooms, print, weave, embroidery studios and digital facilities. We support a multidisciplinary approach and students are encouraged to explore the use of the wider facilities, including within the areas of Jewellery, 3D, Ceramics, Photography, Print Making, Film and Television. The course aims to transform the professional futures of its students and maximise their opportunities as leaders within the international fashion industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- The strategic direction of a contemporary, innovative course with craftsmanship at its core.
- Day to day management and delivery of the BA Fashion course.
- Line management of the course team.
- Encourage and foster a positive and engaged student community.
- Work collaboratively with academic and technical colleagues, professional services teams, and students to offer an excellent student learning experience.
- Monitor, review and enhance course content and delivery.
- Work with marketing colleagues to effectively promote the course and develop a good conversion strategy maintaining links with schools and colleges in the region.
- Collaborate with other course leaders and subject areas across Fashion, Textiles, Jewellery, and the creative arts to encourage collaboration and inter-disciplinary practice.
- Contribute to the wider community of staff and students in the School and Institute.
- Lead on the enhancement of employability and career skills for graduates.
- Work creatively with external partners and employers to promote a connected student experience through collaboration.
- Contribute to module delivery and teaching across levels 4, 5, 6 and into L7.
- To contribute to research and/or enterprise.
Skills and Experience:
- Educated to Master’s Degree level or equivalent professional experience.
- Research active or a desire to become research active.
- An in-depth knowledge of innovative fashion design practice, progressive teaching techniques and craftsmanship, history and theory, CAD (Digital Fashion) and fashion textiles.
- Experience and knowledge of the creative industries and international contemporary Fashion design practice, with connections to match.
- In fostering community engagement and promotion of diversity, equality, inclusion, and well-being.
- External recognition as an academic, professional, or creative practitioner.
- Experience of leadership, mentoring or line management in an academic or professional setting.
- Experience of managing a team in a busy and challenging environment with competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Higher Education and ability to use a range of delivery techniques to inspire and engage students.
- Experience of teaching curriculum development and quality enhancement in the HE environment.
- Ability to develop and sustain internal and external networks.
- Able to plan and prioritise workload and that of others.
- Committed to excellence of outputs and of creating a positive team culture.
- Demonstrate strong student-centred working.
- Additional professional qualifications are desirable, especially HEA fellowship accreditation
