An enthusiastic and creative team of medical educators are working within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to develop a new School of Medicine. As such we are seeking a Course Lead for Assessment (Senior Clinical Lecturer) to join the team at this exciting time. The successful candidate will be an innovative and experienced medical educator who will make a significant contribution towards leading our contemporary medical curriculum using evidence-based contemporary teaching and learning theory and methods.

We aim to produce a new type of doctor who will be excellent and holistic clinical leaders – who can drive change, delivering caring, integrated and technologically advanced healthcare for their patients and communities. The programme will have a particular emphasis on digital and communication health technology (a research strength at Surrey), as well as a ‘One Health’ ethos, that promotes understanding of a ‘whole society’ approach to health and builds on our aims to develop truly inter-professional training with networks across Health Sciences, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences, as well as Engineering and Business.

The role

The core focus of this role will be the development and delivery of a high quality, reliable and valid medical undergraduate assessment programme; that ensure the standards required for students to graduate with a primary medical qualification in the UK. The postholder will lead the development of novel formative and summative assessments in the Surrey GEM programme, including use of work based place assessments and professional portfolios, using evidence-based contemporary assessment theory and methods. The assessment programme will have a particular emphasis on student feedback and feedforward mechanisms that support individual student learning needs.

As Lead for Assessment, you will be working closely with the Dean for Medicine, and responsible for the development of the assessment programme and this aspect of the student experience across Medicine, in line with the University’s Learning and Teaching Strategy and other institutional policies. Within your remit of developing and delivering the BMBS assessment programme you will work with our team of educators and build successful relationships with NHS partners. As such, you will be in a position to represent the programme internally within the university and externally to a wide range of stakeholders at a senior level.

About you

To join us at this exiting time, you will be a forward-looking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and the ambition to achieve personally. You may wish to take this role part-time or as a joint appointment in tandem with existing clinical duties (in which case your current NHS salary may apply). You will certainly have the opportunity to use your skills and networks in concert with the complementary activities of our existing staff based across our wider Faculty who are tackling some of the major challenges facing society, including an ageing population, disease burden and food security.
