Job description

The postholder will typically devote 80 % of their time to education. They will lead and contribute to teaching in modules within the Department’s undergraduate, postgraduate and post qualification provision. The post holder will develop the content of education utilising progressive methods of teaching and learning. They will add their clinical expertise to the support of nursing education of children’s nurses in a variety of settings. The postholder will have a plan for developing teaching and learning and pro-actively contribute to curricula compliance.    

 

The postholder will be passionate about Children’s nursing and education, demonstrating an ability to inspire the next generation of Children’s nurses. They will be knowledgeable about different forms of teaching and learning and confident in their clinical skills and experience. The post holder will undertake a range of education roles including academic assessor, personal tutor and link lecturer for students. They will contribute to critical review, audit and other quality assurance processes. The post holder will commit to actively contributing to a positive, enthusiastic learning culture for all staff and students.

Teaching and research staff work closely together with our lecturer-practitioners and clinical teachers strengthening clinical relevance of all our programmes. Clinical experience for undergraduate and post-graduate students is provided in partnership with leading NHS Trusts in London. 

 

 

This post will be offered on   a fixed-term contract for  one year 

This is a full-time  post - 100% full time equivalent

 

Key responsibilities

•       Play an active role in the Faculty and King’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, focused on the programmes within the Child and Family Health Department, including module leadership, developing and delivering high quality innovative education and education materials, and generating excellent student feedback  

 

•       Act as a Personal tutor, Link Lecturer and Academic Assessor, and Module Lead, supervising and coordinating  BSc Dissertation/Projects. 

 

•       Actively participate in marking, course and programme development and assessment especially taking a lead in blended learning development.

 

•       Complete all mandatory training in line with Faculty and College expectations

 

•       Undertake relevant professional development in negotiation with line manager discussions.

 

•       Maintain registration as a nurse in line with NMC requirements or as an AHP as appropriate.

 Skills, knowledge, and experience  

Essential criteria  

1.       Holds a first degree 

2.       Has a qualification in education or a track record of teaching/education in nursing 

3.       Professional registration as a children’s nurse or equivalent 

4.       Knowledge and clinical credibility in children’s nursing 

5.       Experience of working as a children’s nurse  

6.       Ability to manage a varied and heavy workload 

7.       A flexible, energetic self-starter able to engage actively with team members, the wider College and other potential collaborators in developing a programme of teaching and education research 

8.       Has a vision for the future of Children’s nursing and educational preparation of the next generation of nurses 

9.       Excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills, in all formats, face to face, email, reports, written and for teaching 

10.   Understanding of education methods and approaches, including emerging digital learning  

11.   Understanding of the relevant audit, governance, ethical, data protection and engagement processes in relation to education.  

12.   Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students 

 

Desirable criteria

1.       Has successfully completed postgraduate study (MSc level module or programme) 

2.       Holds a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Qualification 

3.       Knowledge and skills in simulation teaching 

4.       Knowledge and skills in curriculum development 

5.       Knowledge of non-medical prescribing
