Applications are invited for a temporary post of an IT Assistant within National Virus Reference Laboratory.

The National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) plays an important role in the Irish Health Services as the principal diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating virus infections. The laboratory offers approximately 120 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and the current workload involves performing in excess of 900,000 tests per annum.

The NVRL is also accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to undertake testing as detailed in the Schedule bearing the Registration Number 326MT, in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 15189:2012 3rd Edition Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence. The diagnostic function of the laboratory is controlled through the Laboratory Information System (LIS) namely CliniSys WinPath. This system is key to the successful operation of the NVRL as the LIS is interfaced to a wide range of analysers utilised to test patient samples. The system is also utilised to issue hardcopy and electronic patient reports, invoicing data and clinical notification to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and public health. Other software systems operating in the laboratory include the QMS (Q-Pulse), QC package (BioRad) and support ticket system (osTicket). The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for assisting the Systems Manager with the maintenance of the laboratory systems by acting as frontline support to all users.
