London South Bank University

Pro Vice Chancellor Education and Student Engagement (PVC ESE)

Salary: Competitive

With a commitment to providing opportunities for all, at LSBU we have been transforming lives in London and further afield for over 130 years. We are part of a unique and innovative structure for education, LSBU Group, which draws together a diverse set of institutions comprising London South Bank University, University Academies and Colleges and an award-winning enterprise centre. We take pride in the value-added of our degree programmes, the employability and success of our graduates and the impact of our world-leading applied research.

To be internationally competitive as a technical university we need to continue to develop our teaching portfolio, innovate with learning practices and anticipate the needs of our diverse student body and our business community. We commit to widening opportunity and having a real world impact, measured by our Group goal of positively impacting on 1m lives, through teaching and learning that transforms the lives of individuals, communities, business and society.

LSBU has 8 academic schools supported in their teaching and learning by our Centre for Research-Informed Teaching and our Institute for Professional and Technical Education (ITPE), as well as a suite of professional services that cover the student academic and non-academic journey.

In order to match the innovation at the heart of the LSBU group, we are looking for a change agent who can support the expansive ambitions of the organisation.  LSBU is already at the forefront of a change in education sector thinking, with our global and group wide approach to professional, technical and vocational education, and there is an opportunity to utilise innovation, for example in digital environments, competence-based assessment and problem-based learning to challenge our way of working. We aim to create a research-rich education environment that is highly applied and real-world relevant.

We are looking to appoint an innovative Pro Vice Chancellor Education and Student Engagement who is an exceptional leader and will continue the transformation of our academic offer, to embed student success across the University, help mitigate educational inequality and to lead innovation in learning and teaching.

Strong candidates will have an academic record of significance, at doctoral level or equivalent.  They will have robust understanding of the challenges and drivers facing Higher Education in the UK and internationally along with demonstrable experience of translating strategic intent into operational reality.  A successful track record and experience in academic portfolio review, coupled with successfully effecting improvement in student experience is essential, underpinned with a personal and demonstrable commitment to diversity and equality and experience of providing supportive learning environments for diverse student bodies.

You will be joining a dynamic leadership team passionately committed to education as the driver for social and economic change.
