Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Civil Engineering
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within Civil Engineering.
This research aims to systematically investigate existing binder mixes, the use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), and the effects of combinations of additions (especially nanoclay) on the fresh rheological properties of a printable concrete mix in both early stages and long-term. The project will develop new strategies and design processes for improving concrete printing performance. The microstructure and durability investigations will describe the effect of porosity will be used to evaluate the printed concrete and the expected influence of these strains on the long-term service life of printed concrete. A comprehensive work programme is planned and will support international research efforts to develop low carbon printed concretes.
The successful candidate for this position will be required to lead and undertake a detailed testing programme that characterises the fresh and hardened properties of 3D printed concrete. They will build on previous research in this field and make use of advanced characterisation tools such as CT scanning.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
