Two year fixed-term contract available immediately. Flexible working arrangements available including part-time hours. 

This exciting new role at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) provides the opportunity to work with the world’s leading researchers in machine learning, artificial intelligence and computer vision. Building your career at AIML offers many rewards.

The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by Professor Javen Shi and will work with other team members on causality research and a re-identification (Re-ID) application. The tasks of this role include:

  • causal learning with incremental data and varying downstream tasks
  • causal knowledge graphs
  • snail detection and Re-ID in images or videos captured by cameras at varying sites.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or other Machine Learning-related field.
  • Programming experience in Matlab, Python, C++ or other relevant language and experience in deep neural networks.
  • Experience and demonstrable expert knowledge in one or more or the following areas: deep learning; graph neural networks and/or probabilistic graphical models; computer vision such as re-identification and/or tracking.
  • A good publication record in top tier machine learning and/or computer vision conferences or journals, commensurate with experience and opportunity.
  • A strong work ethic, and the ability to work well independently, and as a member of a broader team, including with industrial partners
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience.
  • Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

The following will also be highly desirable:

  • Has the experience and/or ability to contribute to the promotion of research capabilities to industry and the wider community.
