Exciting opportunity to become part of the School of Computer Science in this ‘Education Specialist’ role.

The School of Computer Science is seeking to recruit two Lecturer (Level B) academics with a strong focus on teaching excellence, student engagement and online course development and delivery. The successful candidates will be well equipped to teach across a range of Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Technology. Particular expertise in teaching machine learning is desirable. The successful candidate(s) will be joining a vibrant community of educators and researchers: the School was recently ranked 3rd in Australia and in the top-50 in the world in the 2022 AWRU University Rankings, and a number of the School’s staff conduct their research in the Australian Institute for Machine Learning, which is one of the University of Adelaide’s research institutes.

The successful candidates will demonstrate a high level of teaching expertise and positive student feedback through the use of innovative strategies and teaching pedagogy that delivers outstanding results for students in a collaborative and dynamic learning environment. The roles may include online course development and delivery through University partners, converting existing material and developing new material for the School’s undergraduate and Masters programs.

The academic workload associated with these Education Specialist positions will include a commitment of 61% - 90% of time to teaching and teaching related duties (including scholarship). Actual workload allocation within the band will be determined by the Head of School through the School’s workload allocation model.

The opportunity for the successful candidates of these fixed term position to apply for affiliate membership of the Adelaide Education Academy subsequent to appointment will be available.

Essential criteria for teaching and research appointments (Level B):

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology or Software Engineering
  • Ability to teach effectively using evidence-based pedagogy that promotes student engagement
  • Ability to teach in computer science, information technology, software engineering, especially in machine learning
  • Evidence of and a willingness to engage in curriculum development and renewal in CS, IT and machine learning
  • High quality interpersonal skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to carry out administrative duties, as directed by the Head of School, effectively and efficiently
  • Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion
