About BOHS

The British Occupational Hygiene Society is a scientific charity, a leading international awarding body for workplace health qualifications and the professional body for UK occupational hygienists and asbestos analytical and management professionals.

Occupational hygiene combines interdisciplinary scientific knowledge and practice to prevent, monitor and control exposures ranging from radiation through to noise and carcinogens. We are seeking an experienced scientific education specialist to help us develop new approaches to the assessment and training in the field.

Our qualifications are delivered by Universities and Approved Training Providers, but BOHS designs and sets the curricula that set the standards for worker health protection and asbestos management for the UK. Over 5000 students per year sit our specialist qualifications, from Levels 3-7, protecting the lives of thousands of workers.

The Role

We are seeking a confident and creative health or scientific educator who understands the principles of effective curriculum and assessment design. The successful candidate will lead teams of technical experts and a small administrative team who deliver cutting edge theoretical and practical assessments worldwide.

The role will be particularly suited to a creative and motivated individual who enjoys multidisciplinary education without some of the constraints of larger public sector educators. You will have expertise in curriculum and assessment design, in a University or Professional Education setting and have undertaken leadership responsibilities, such as course/programme leadership or course management.

This is a non-teaching role, but there are opportunities to undertake up to 20% research in a relevant field. BOHS is the home of the Annals of Workplace Exposure and Health and has unique access to data and to policy-makers in the field. The Society is uniquely placed to directly influence policy and practice and to make a direct and immediate impact on health.

This is a new role, reporting directly to the CEO of BOHS and is suitable for remote working. Full training will be provided as well as equipment necessary for home working. The role may be delivered on a part time basis (no less than 0.6).

The post commands a competitive third sector salary, private pension scheme and free health benefits for employees. BOHS is based in Derby, but working at distance will be an option for a suitable candidate.

For an informal discussion of the role, please contact Professor Kevin Bampton, CEO of BOHS - kevin.bampton@bohs.org
