At the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, the Institute of Natural Materials Technology invites applications for the

Chair (W3) of Food Engineering

to be filled on October 1, 2023.

Embedded in the Institute of Natural Materials Technology and the Center for Integrated Natural Materials Technology (ZINT), which both deal with the value chain from bio-based raw materials towards different classes of end products and the necessary transition processes, the main focus of the chair to be filled is related to engineering and scientific aspects of food production. Currently, the research focus is on the processing of products such as chocolate and sweets, baked goods and dairy products. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on the fundamental elucidation of structure-function relationships of food-related biopolymers, and on up-to-date issues concerning processing steps such as high-speed cutting, sanitation, and upcycling of processing by-products. Motivated by challenges of the global change, future work should be in the context of material-related sustainability. The main focus of the teaching tasks is on the education of students in the curriculum of “Process Engineering and Natural Materials Technology”. Additional lectures shall be given in the curricula of other faculties, for example Food Chemistry and Economics and Engineering. You are able to present the respective contents both in the German and English language, and to introduce your didactic and pedagogic capabilities also in the digital format. Your willingness to participate in academic self-administration at the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering as well as national and international research networks, including the initiation of research projects, is a prerequisite.

We are looking for an internationally renowned scientist (m/f/x) with an excellent record of publications and profound knowledge and experience in food process engineering. We especially expect the capability to fundamentally evaluate product-related changes in complex food systems during production, for instance with respect to food safety, or concerning structure formation, rheology and texture. Close cooperation with national and international partners from science and industry, practical experience concerning acquisition and execution of research projects of both fundamental and application-related character as well as good networking in industry and committees is highly desirable. We additionally expect your willingness to actively cooperate within the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering (for instance, with the Chair of Processing Machines and Processing Technology or with the Chair of Computational and Experimental Solid Mechanics) and with other faculties of TU Dresden (for instance, with the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry, or with the Faculty of Business and Economics). The same applies for the cooperation with Dresden’s transdisciplinary non-university research and cultural institutions network (DRESDEN-concept). Applicants have to fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).

For further questions regarding the application please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Mr. Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Beckmann, phone +49 351 463-32786; E-Mail: berufungen.mw@tu-dresden.de.

TU Dresden seeks to employ more female professors. Hence, we particularly encourage women to apply. Applications from candidates with disabilities and those requiring additional support are very welcome. The university is a certified family-friendly university and offers a Dual Career Service. If you have any questions about these topics, please contact the team of the Equal Opportunity Officer of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering (gleichstellung.mw@tu-dresden.de) or the Representative of Employees with Disabilities (Mr. Roberto Lemmrich, Tel.: +49 351 463-33175).

Please submit your application until October 28, 2022 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies) including a CV in tabular form, a description of your scientific career, an overview of research activities, a list of your scientific publications and patents, and a list of courses taught, results of evaluations as well as a copy of the certificate of your highest academic degree, preferably in electronic form (one PDF file) via the TU Dresden SecureMail Portal https://securemail.tu-dresden.de by sending it to berufungen.mw@tu-dresden.de or as hard copy to: TU Dresden, Fakultät Maschinenwesen, Dekan, Herrn Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Beckmann, Helmholtzstr. 10, 01069 Dresden. In case of hard copies, please attach all documents to your application in electronic form (CD or USB storage medium).
