We are looking to employ a suitably experienced and enthusiastic clinician to act as Programme Lead for the Physician Associate MSc, leading the Physician Associate teaching team. The post is for a Senior Academic (Education) at Reader level (substantive permanent role, equivalent to Associate Professor).
The Brunel Physician Associate (PA) MSc programme is now entering its sixth year of operation. It is currently within the Department of Health Sciences, which also offers a range of other professional programmes, including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing and Social Work. The PA programme will transfer to Brunel Medical School (BMS), whose first cohort of MBBS students will start in September 2022. Transfer of the PA programme to BMS will take effect from August 2023.
Reporting to the Dean of Brunel Medical School, you will work closely with teams in the Medical School and in the Department of Health Sciences to oversee transfer of the PA programme to BMS, and the changes required in readiness for GMC regulation.
The appointed individual will be a Physician Associate, doctor, nurse or allied health professional, with a track record of educational leadership and experience of inter-professional working in the NHS.
The responsibilities of the appointed individual will include:
- Leadership, support and academic direction to the PA teaching team, ensuring high quality programme, delivery and an excellent student experience as the profession enters a new phase of GMC regulation;
- Working collaboratively with key members of the leadership team, including the Medical Director of the PA programme and senior staff in the Medical School;
- Contribution to teaching, assessment, quality assurance and ongoing development of the programme;
- Development of interprofessional learning opportunities;
- Engagement with a range of placement providers to ensure placement capacity in primary care and local NHS Trusts;
- Representation on relevant university, regional and national committees;
- Activities to promote the development of the PA profession as it becomes established as a mainstream NHS professional body
The appointed individual will be based on the campus of Brunel University London in Uxbridge and will join the newly established Brunel Medical School, at an exciting point in its development.
This post represents a significant opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual who has the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, a passion for education and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment.
Closing date for applications: Friday 30 September 2022 (Midnight)
