Job description

The Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, School of Medicine, Dentistry & Biomedical Sciences (MDBS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Assistant. The post holder will work as an active member of the PGJCCR Cancer Nucleotide Metabolism research team to investigate the nucleotide biosynthesis pathways within cancer cells, with a particular focus on genome stability and the relationship of these pathways to cancer biology and chemoresistance. The successful candidate will employ an array of biochemical, molecular and cell biology-focused approaches o assist in the design, planning and delivery of this research project.  

This post is available on a fixed contract until 30 September 2024.  Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.     

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:    

  • BSc Degree or equivalent in subject relevant to research activity, e.g. drug development, cancer biology; and
  • A minimum of 1 years’ experience in each of the following:
    • Experience in tissue culture
    • Experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g. qRT-PCR, Western blot)
    • Experience in immunological assays (e.g. ELISA, cytokine/chemokine arrays).
