We are seeking to appoint a Business Continuity and Risk officer to work with university colleagues to accelerate the adoption of the Business Continuity Management System and implement a Risk Management regime.

At an exciting time of ongoing change in the Higher Education sector, the region and the institution, this post will play a critical part in leading the University to optimise opportunities and minimise exposure to risks. We are seeking to complement the team’s existing skillset through the appointment of an accomplished individual who will bring capability, knowledge, and continue to drive the university towards effective risk management and business continuity planning.

The Officer will collaborate with colleagues in both Faculties and Professional Services to deliver robust Business Continuity Plans, testing and exercise them to identify actions to improve processes and their plans. The role will also work across the university to support development of risk registers, identifying risks and supporting the development of mitigating actions.

Working together with University colleagues, you will:

  • Manage the delivery of a robust and professional service to the University.
  • Become a trusted advisor providing advice, support, and training to stakeholders on Business Continuity & Risk Management.
  • Support the Head of Business Continuity & Risk to develop Business Continuity Plans & Exercises.
  • Lead Risk Community of Practice workshops.
  • Support the Head of BC&R during major BC incidents and loss.
  • Data gathering and analysis of Risk.
  • Write and present reports and presentations to senior leaders.
  • Represent the University.

Essential requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or significant / relevant experience in a related field
  • Skill, knowledge and experience of Business Continuity or Risk management.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing, implementing, and embedding new procedures and practices.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with internal executive and non-executive stakeholders and with external parties.
  • Build strong and influentially collaborative working relationships and networks across the institution and with external partners.
  • Demonstrates an analytical and systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Makes decisions which influence the success of projects and team objectives.
  • Present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exercise substantial personal responsibility, prioritise work and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • They may potentially be called upon to work outside of standard office hours when situations arise.

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience in a change management role.
  • Training of stakeholder groups.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Certificate of the Business Continuity Institute (CBCI).
  • They must be acutely aware of the risks in the workplace and the potential impact on themselves and on others and able to take steps to reduce hazards and to ensure that appropriate risk management processes are operational and effective.
