Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor (RAP) and/or Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in Quantitative Remote Sensing in the Department of Geography (2 posts) (Ref.: 516335), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis for RAP, or on a one- to three-year temporary basis for PDF, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in geography, environmental sciences, artificial intelligence, computer science or a related discipline. They should demonstrate (i) knowledge and practical experience in satellite data processing and analysis; (ii) computer programming skills and knowledge of machine learning methods for spatial-temporal modelling; (iii) a good physical understanding of land surface variables and processes; and (iv) a strong track record of high-quality research as indicated by publications and external grants.

The appointees will undertake research in the following topics, such as inversion algorithm development, high-level satellite product generation, Earth’s energy budget, and climate change. They will supervise junior research staff and students; and assist in administrative, operational and other duties as assigned. Those with excellent publication track record may be considered for appointment as RAP. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. For RAP, the appointment on fixed terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
