SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe.  Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national, and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.

We are looking for an economist to complement our team working on the socio-economic and behavioural analysis related to agricultural policies and environmental change.

This permanent position will cut across farm systems modelling work in SRUC that draws on behavioural assumptions and will provide a strong social science focus for research informing the development of agricultural and agri-environmental interventions and policy.

The position will in the first instance support delivery of the SRUC project “Ensuring positive behavioural change for farmers towards best practice for clean growth: economic and behavioural investigations” funded by Scottish Government. The project combines elements of production economics, analysis of farmer behaviour and farm systems modelling to evaluate policy interventions and inform the future of agricultural policy in Scotland. The position will also serve to deliver on complementary research across the portfolio of funded research projects, for example on effects of land use and on natural capital valuation and contribute to teaching and supervision activities.

It is essential that applicants’ background includes experience with quantitative research methods in relation to agricultural and/or environmental domains. The use of experimental approaches will be encouraged.
