About the team

Based within the School of Earth Sciences, this position sits in the Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET). CET is a unique research centre that seeks to address practical problems in mineral exploration and mining using innovative and integrated research.

The CET works to encourage the adoption of best practice and cutting edge geoscience techniques across the exploration and mining industries. Towards this goal, we aim to be recognised as a global leader in education and training in exploration targeting.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under general direction, determine the geometry and relative timing of structures, intrusions and related mineral paragenesis of several gold ore deposits in the West African Craton. You will co-supervise HDR students, provide leadership within the team and initiate and maintain productive relationships with members of the WAXI research team under the direction of Associate Professor Nicolas Thébaud.

About you

To succeed in this position, you will be a collaborative geoscience researcher with knowledge of mineralising systems and experience working from drill core. You will possess exceptional communications skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team to ensure priorities are set and deadlines are met. A fluent French language skill is desirable.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • PhD qualification in geosciences
  • Proven track record in ore deposit geological investigation combining structural analysis and ore mineralogy
  • Experience working from drill core
  • Knowledge of mineralising systems
  • Core experience in field geology and mapping of Precambrian terranes desired.
  • Achievement with a record of publications commensurate with the years in the academic environment
  • Experience with successful collaboration with government and/or industry partners
  • Experience and willingness to supervise students and staff
