The Department of Management at Deakin Business School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Management, with a specialization in human resource management. Although candidates from all areas of human resource management will be considered, preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching expertise in the areas of the future of work, people/HR analytics, or talent management. The successful candidate will undertake outstanding research, engage with industry and the community, be passionate about delivering excellent teaching, and provide supervision to PhD students.

The research of the Department of Management has been rated “above world standard” by the Australian Federal Government’s Excellence in Research in Australia in 2018. According to the Australian Research Magazine, Deakin it is the top institution in Australia for international business and business ethics, and is host to the leading researchers in human resource and organizations and business ethics. Members of the department publish in leading journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Human Resource Management, Personnel Psychology and Leadership Quarterly.

The Department runs a PhD program with significant coursework component, organizes a research seminar series and regular workshops, and enjoys a vibrant and stimulating research environment.

This is a full-time, continuing position based in Melbourne, the cultural capital of Australia, renowned around the world for its relaxed atmosphere, prominent sporting events and festivities, fantastic restaurants, parks and sports clubs, as well as its close proximity to beautiful landscapes and countryside.

To be successful, you will have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (or very close to completion).
  • Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including experience in innovative curriculum design.
  • Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or success in obtaining external research funding.
  • Ability to make a contribution to industry and community engagement for research and teaching.
  • Capacity to contribute to leadership of teaching, research and/or administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Commitment in fostering relationships with research, community, industry, government and professional partners and with other higher educational institutions.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Maintain deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design.
  • Assist in the integration of industry and research practice to inform unit / course design and teaching practices Participate in teaching teams to develop courses and materials and collaborate to produce innovation in curriculum design.
  • Deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery.
  • Contribute to review of units and courses and implement refinements.
  • Implement creative teaching practices to improve student success and engagement.
  • Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners, monitoring and adapting assessment practices to facilitate and improve learning outcomes.
  • Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at unit level to improve learning outcomes.
  • Design collaborative learning opportunities at the unit level.
  • Provide academic support to students within units and guide students to appropriate support services where required.
  • Initiate, design and conduct high-quality research activities generating high impact outputs.
  • Support research funding applications that influence policy, strategy or translate into real world impact.
