Postdoctoral Researcher (B) - AI Safety and Ethics in Medical Machine Learning (Australian Institute for Machine Learning)

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level B - Medical Machine Learning to join the Australian Institute for Machine Learning, at the University of Adelaide for a fixed term contract for up to three years.

The successful candidate will work as a medical machine learning postdoc at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning in collaboration with international pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline.

The specific project involves investigating issues related to the inductive biases in commonly applied medical imaging AI models, and how these biases can affect safety and fairness.

To be successful you will need:

  • Programming experience and expertise in Matlab, Python, or C++ or other relevant language
  • Experience and demonstrable expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    1. Representation learning
    2. AI robustness and safety
    3. Medical image processing and analysis
    4. Signal processing
    5. Deep learning
  • Experience collaborating with clinicians and/or medical researchers.
  • Track record of publications in top-tier Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, AI ethics, or Medical Imaging conferences and/or journals, or in high quality medical journals on AI topics, commensurate with experience and opportunity.
  • A strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently, and as a member of a broader team, including industrial partners.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline. Industry experience will be highly regarded.
