Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant position, in the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, with a working appointment at the National University Health System (NUHS) Centre for Healthy Longevity. Appointments will be on a 2-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Centre for Healthy Longevity (CHL), the aging research division of the National University Health System (NUHS), aims to be a leading institute for geroscience research and translation globally, renowned for translating research into practice to improve healthspan.

The Research Assistant will play a key role in administering and coordinating the projects to ensure all milestones and deliverables are met. Critical to this position is establishing and maintaining strong relationships with the clinical partners and academic stakeholders, through meeting management and creation of high-quality oral and written communications content. The role will suit someone with strong writing skills, administration and communications experience and data handling experience, who can enthusiastically engage internal & external stakeholders, and enjoys managing multiple demands and competing deadlines. The research coordinator will work closely with Prof. Andrea B. Maier and the multidisciplinary team of researchers within the Centre for Healthy Longevity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant is expected to:

  • Organize and support internal and external meetings for the department
  • Works with the PI to manage the day-to-day activities of the study including problem solving, communication and protocol management.
  • Assists the PI in development of materials and tools necessary to recruit individuals to the clinical study, this includes (but not limited to) protocol requirements, schedule of visits, execution of research plan and develop advertising and other informational materials to be used in subject recruitment.
  • Screens subjects for eligibility using protocol specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, reviews of medical records, and documenting each potential participant’s eligibility or exclusion
  • Conducts informed consent process including interactions with research participants and assists PI in communication of study requirements to all individuals involved in the study.
  • Coordinates with PI, department, and central administration to help ensure that clinical research and related activities are performed in accordance with national regulations, university/institute and sponsoring agency’s policies and procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares other study materials as requested by the PI. These study materials include, but are not limited to, the informed consent document, case report forms (CRFs), enrolment logs, and drug/device accountability logs.
  • Establishes and organizes study files, including but not limited to, regulatory binders, study specific source documentation and other materials.
  • Coordinates participant tests and procedures.
  • Collects data as required by the protocol. Assures timely completion of Case Report Forms. Maintains study timelines.
  • Works with the PI to manage the day-to-day activities of the study including problem solving, communication and protocol management.
  • Supports PI and institution to respond to any audit findings and implement approved recommendations.

Qualifications

The applicant should have: 

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant (biomedical) area with an understanding of aging
  • Understanding of clinical trials and or observational longitudinal studies
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to undertake a range of tasks concurrently
  • Ability to monitor standards, guidelines and principles in relation to the position
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in easily understood format for a variety of audiences;
  • Have an investigative nature & attention to details
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team linking different fields (e.g. epidemiology, biogerontology)
