Job Details

Applications are invited for a Temporary of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Chemistry - Centre for BioNano Interactions, CBNI

The Centre for BioNano Interactions is pioneering new techniques and approaches at the research interface between nanoscale science and living systems, with applications in the biomedical arena. The team is highly interdisciplinary, fast-paced and dynamic, and would suit scientists that aspire to be at the leading edge of an emerging field of science and biomedical research.

Typically scientists that fit well with the team have strong foundations in main arenas of established disciplines of science, and are methodologically strong. Typically they have initial backgrounds in one or more of physical chemistry, materials science, advanced methods of nanoparticle synthesis and characterization, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular and cell biology, and other areas of biomedical science but are typically flexible and strongly motivated to interact with and learn radically new ideas and approaches from other fields. In selecting candidates, these qualities may be more significant than the specific discipline.

Key areas of research include: Fundamental understanding of interactions between synthetic nanoparticles and living systems, at cellular level and in vivo.

  • Exosomal detection and manipulation
  • Novel approaches to vaccine development.
  • Applications of bionanoscale science for therapy and diagnostics In this Program, CBNI is seeking to advance further the understanding and implementation of targeted nanoscale medicines, with a more detailed understanding of the role of various nanoparticle-target receptor interactions.

CBNI is looking for a Post Doctoral Researcher with research experience in relevant areas of molecular and cellular biology.

The successful candidate will explore novel approaches to re-programme the epigenome in mammalian cells, including gene expression and epigenetic changes, and associated phenotypic outcomes. As such, demonstrated experience in mammalian cell culture, advanced molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as ChIP-sequencing, CRISPR, flow cytometry and live cell microscopy is highly desirable. It would be an advantage if the candidate were familiar with advanced analytical and biophysical methods involving protein-protein and other bimolecular interactions. It is also desirable, but not essential, that candidates have experience in working with various biotechnological separation and analysis technologies, and many of the applications involve studies in complex biological milieu.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching

PD1 Salary range: €39,522 - €40,083 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience

Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on 26th August 2022

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications. UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CV's submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.

Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/
