Job description

The Role

You will be part of a highly collaborative and inclusive team, working primarily on analyses of cancer screening data and studies in cancer prevention. This will involve evaluation of cancer screening programmes and cancer registration data. You will have a strong interest in epidemiology, a good understanding of statistical methods and fluency in using statistical software (e.g. R or Stata).

The post is funded from a Cancer Research UK programme grant on cancer screening and statistics. The aim of the programme is to provide insights that will improve cancer screening and prevention and promote early diagnosis.

You will report to and be supervised by Dr Milena Falcaro (Senior Statistician) and will work closely with epidemiologists.

The Cancer Prevention Group

You will work in a dynamic, supportive research team of around 50 members led by Professor Peter Sasieni. The Cancer Prevention Group (CPG) conducts impactful, policy-relevant research to drive meaningful change and advances in cancer prevention, early diagnosis and screening. Many CPG projects are high-profile and at the cutting edge of research in the field including projects such as the NHS-Galleri Trial, YouScreen, evaluation of the HPV primary screening pilot and other internationally recognised real-world data projects.

The CPG is part of the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Studies and is divided into five cross-cutting sub-teams: statistics, experimental epidemiology, observational epidemiology, behavioural science and clinical trials. Group members collaborate in cancer screening research internationally and have substantial expertise in epidemiology, clinical studies, use of routine registries and databases, as well as related statistical methodologies.
