Job Description

SIA-NUS Digital Aviation Lab at the National University of Singapore (NUS) offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Research Engineer (Design Technologists) in Work Package 4. The work package focuses on developing innovations in the following key strategic areas related to passengers’ inflight experience, mainly in Enhancements to SIA’s Cabin Seat Product Offerings, Novel Features for SIA’s Next Generation Aircraft Cabins for Sleep Improvement and Pushing SIA’s Superior Customer Experience to New Heights with an Advanced Connected Cabin.

Design technologists are designers with front-end development skills. The duties and responsibilities for this role includes collaborating with other team members (which includes Software Engineers, Hardware Engineers, Data Analyst and Industrial Designer) in the WP and the Corp Lab . The candidate would be tasked to tackle front-end programming, design, and UX all at the same time.

Role:

  • To work with the researchers and designers within the corp lab to build systems and prototypes for data collection and design intervention. This include controls systems (eg as cabin lighting), IFE or other interface design and other control / hardware integration (eg motorised actuator seats movements).
  • As part of the research team, you will participate in the design research, making sense of data, come up with new ideas and innovative solutions through the building of exploratory prototypes.

  • Should have the ability to solve design problems via writing code.
  • A bias toward action and is able to build exploratory solutions to solve problems. You Have to be attuned to design and understand what makes a great user experience.
  • Care about the integrity of a product's code and the quality of its look and feel.
  • Through testing and research, you make sure everything works together.
  • Programming and prototyping skill for both physical and digital products. Ability to build working prototype.
  • Preferably a Bachelor in Industrial Design, Bachelor in Design, Bachelor in Computer Science, Bachelor in Computer Engineering
