Lecturer in Human Geography Education (AEP)
The Department of Geography, King’s College London invites applications for two Lecturers in Human Geography (Education), at least one of whom should have expertise in the field of sustainable cities. The successful applicants will make contributions to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including in-person and online lecturing, supervision, marking and academic and pastoral support of students. One or both successful applicants will contribute to teaching on the MSc in Sustainable Cities (specifically modules on ‘Understanding the Sustainable City’ and ‘Growing up urban’), co-convening our 1st year modules on ‘Geography Tutorials: Critical thinking and techniques’ and ‘Geographical Foundations 2’, co-convening our undergraduate dissertation module, and participating in 1st and 2nd year Geography field trips in the UK. They will also pursue opportunities for conducting education-focused scholarship in their field and will receive mentoring and support to develop their skills and experience in education, academic administration, and scholarship.
The appointments are to the Academic Education Pathway (AEP), which is focused on the delivery of education, education-related scholarship, and leadership in education. Indicatively 80% of a staff member’s activities will be accounted for by a combination of teaching, supervision, student support, educational leadership and innovation, and administration; the remaining 20% will be dedicated to scholarship. Staff on the AEP are not contractually obliged to carry out research and will not have significant responsibility for research.
Both posts are for one year, fixed-term, and will report to the Deputy Head of Department of Geography. Applicants must be available to start by mid-September 2022.

There are two posts available. Both will be offered on full-time, fixed term contracts for 12 months. One post is a maternity cover.
- To develop teaching materials suitable for the delivery of online and in-person (blended teaching).
- To teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students: in class, online, in computing laboratories and in the field as necessary.
- To deliver personal and academic tutorials for all stages of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, for in-person and online cohorts.
- To undertake departmental administrative roles as appropriate for career stage.
- To undertake other reasonable academic duties and teaching at the request of the Head of Department

Skills, knowledge, and experience
1. PhD awarded in Human Geography or a relevant interdisciplinary field (awarded before starting the post)
2. Excellent knowledge and understanding of the specified fields of expertise.
3. Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
4. Excellent administrative and organisational skills
5. The ability to design and deliver lectures, practicals, seminars and tutorials in the specified fields of expertise.
6. Experience of teaching the specified and associated subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with evidence of innovative and effective teaching and ability to engage and inspire students of diverse and international backgrounds
7. Experience of assessment procedures in Higher Education and providing excellent feedback on assessment
8. An interdisciplinary mindset in education and research, and aptitude for working within an interdisciplinary framework, including teaching across disciplines and beyond the immediate field of expertise
9. A demonstrable commitment to an inclusive, diverse and collegial approach to education and scholarship
1. Completion of appropriate training in Higher Education teaching and learning/academic practice. Those without this will need to complete this in their first year in post
