Applications are invited for a Permanent post of a Technical Officer within UCD School of Veterinary Medicine / Vet Pathobiology.

UCD School of Veterinary Medicine is the only Veterinary School in Ireland and offers undergraduate degree programmes in Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Nursing as well as post graduate research degrees. In addition, the diagnostic laboratories of the UCD Veterinary Hospital (UCDVH) provide a rapid in-house veterinary diagnostic service to clinicians and veterinary practitioners around Ireland that includes the disciplines of veterinary microbiology, veterinary parasitology, veterinary pathology and veterinary clinical pathology.

We now wish to recruit a Technical Officer who will join the existing team within the Section of Veterinary Pathobiology.

The main purpose of the role is to provide technical, administrative and training support to the laboratories in the Veterinary Pathobiology Section. The successful candidate will be primarily involved in assisting pathologists in conducting animal post-mortem examinations and practical classes. The candidate will monitor consumable usage, place orders, handle animal carcases as well as maintaining the post mortem and laboratory areas. The candidate will also carry out sample reception, processing, analysis and data entry into the UCDVH computer system. The candidate should be able to demonstrate good initiative, a strong work ethic, high quality technical skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary: 95 Technical Officer\2013 (7915) €40,415 - 53,515 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
