Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to work right in the heart of the city. The IT Portfolio Management Team is currently delivering an ambitious roadmap of transformational projects and require a Senior Project Manager to join our department. 

The post holder will work within a well-established team to help us deliver projects within our portfolio. They will have responsibility for managing business and system changes throughout the project lifecycle. This will be achieved by following agreed processes and methodology whilst working closely with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

  1. Take responsibility for the definition, documentation and safe execution of small to medium scale projects, actively participating in all phases of the project. Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project.
  2. Ensure that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and tracks all activities against the plan, providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders, as appropriate.
  3. Monitor costs, timescales and resources used, and takes action where these deviate from agreed tolerances. Ensure that delivered systems are implemented within these criteria.
  4. Manage the change control procedure and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off. Gain agreement for revisions to the project(s) from project sponsors.
  5. Actively represent the project team, ensuring that effective relationships are built and maintained with the business.
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Relevant professional qualification
  • Holds Practitioner Certificate in PRINCE2 ® qualification 
  • Is familiar with the project or programme development life-cycle and typical problems associated with the implementation of IT projects and programmes. 
  • Has practical knowledge of project or programme management methodologies, tools and techniques with in depth knowledge of at least one methodology.
  • Has practical knowledge of methods and techniques for reporting progress and financial conformance against an agreed plan.
