Regulation of RNA metabolism by a viral endoribonuclease

Applications are invited for a BBSRC-funded postdoctoral research fellow which is available immediately in the herpesvirus research group run by Prof. Gill Elliott in the Section of Virology, School of Biosciences and Medicine, University of Surrey.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a comprehensive research programme into the biology of herpesviruses, with particular focus on the role of the HSV1 virion host shutoff (vhs) protein on RNA metabolism. Using vhs as a model for global cellular mRNA metabolism, the successful candidate will use omics, molecular and cell biology approaches to elucidate the mechanism by which vhs regulates the content and subcellular compartmentalisation of the infected cell transcriptome.

We are therefore looking for a highly motivated individual with a PhD in a biological science and proven ability in RNA biology. Experience in virology is not required, but an interest in host-pathogen interactions would be beneficial.

We are part of the growing and vibrant Section of Virology located at the beautiful campus of the University of Surrey, close to London. The Section is within the Department of Microbial Sciences, where research strengths encompass the molecular and cellular basis of disease caused by a range of important human and animal pathogens, and multiple aspects of RNA biology.

This position is available until the end of February 2024 in the first instance, with the possibility of further extension.

Interviews to be held the week beginning 26/09/22
