Applications are invited for an 18-month, full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London.
This position is funded by a Leverhulme Trust research grant awarded to Professor Kathy Rastle. The project asks why words are spelled in particular ways and the extent to which writing systems have been shaped by cognitive pressures. The project involves a combination of corpus analyses of modern and historical English spellings, and behavioural experiments that seek to simulate spelling change in the laboratory.
Applicants should hold a PhD in psychology, linguistics, or a closely related discipline. They must have outstanding quantitative skills, including experience in the manipulation and analysis of large databases and datasets. Experience in the design and analysis of psychological experiments is essential. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about using open science tools to improve the rigour and impact of the project.
We offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including generous annual leave and training and development opportunities. The successful applicant will work in Professor Rastle’s lab in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
The post is available from January 9, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Kathy Rastle on Kathy.Rastle@rhul.ac.uk
