SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe.  Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.

We are looking for an environmental modeller to strengthen SRUC’s capacity in the field of environmental and agricultural systems modelling, with a focus on net zero targets.

As an environmental modeller, your main responsibility will be to design, carry out and co-ordinate research on the environmental impacts of agricultural production in the UK and beyond, specifically developing spatial modelling of greenhouse gas emission reductions in the sector.

The duties of the role will include:

•           To support our research on climate change mitigation and the wider sustainability of agri-environmental systems, land use and food supply chains.

•           To develop and use interdisciplinary system models and databases which can integrate natural, agricultural, economic and social aspects of agricultural systems.

•           To build on existing modelling capacity in REES and other departments, utilising the theoretical and practical knowledge accumulated in SRUC.

•           To be a key member of the development team, while also contributing to related international system analysis work.

There will be opportunities for you to contribute to the delivery of research and consultancy regarding agricultural interventions and policy (such as, for example, through the Centre of Expertise on Climate Change CxC) and to contribute to relevant undergraduate and graduate level teaching programmes that are delivered by SRUC in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, as well as SRUC’s Doctoral College.

This is a full-time permanent post located at King’s Buildings, Edinburgh, with flexible hybrid working arrangements.

Further details on the requirements of this role can be found in the Job Particulars document, which you must read before applying for this role. This is downloadable when you click the APPLY button.
