The Role

The Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University is a large and dynamic Faculty that is implementing a new multi-year strategic plan to continue its ascendant trajectory in teaching and research. The Faculty's vision includes significant teaching innovation, the development of high impact research initiatives, and a multi-layered long term vision for industry and public engagement. The Faculty is seeking a Project Manager to coordinate a range of innovative projects that fulfil the generous grant from the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation to share Macquarie University's latest research in education and enhance educational practice and outcomes in Australian schools and early childhood education settings through Macquarie's Academy of Continuing Professional Development in Education (ACPDE).

Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Projects, with the support of a dedicated Project Officer, and within the wider Strategic Projects team, the position is responsible for managing and leading the delivery of projects for the Academy by providing project management expertise. This role will work directly with the academic leadership of the Faculty as well as the academic and professional staff within the Macquarie School of Education, to conceptualise, develop and implement projects, and will pull together cross-functional teams from across the University to deliver them. The role will ensure that the ACPDE projects are developed and managed in an integrated and consistent manner, and will be responsible for identifying, assessing and managing project risks appropriately whilst adhering to relevant professional standards and regulations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage the planning and delivery of projects and initiatives to achieve operational and strategic goals, working closely with the Manager of Strategic Projects and key staff in the Macquarie School of Education
  • Work with senior School and Faculty staff in building and maintaining business development opportunities with external stakeholders and across key sectors
  • Implement policies, guidelines and procedures and drive their application to ensure the effective operationalisation of the initiatives
  • Oversee project administration including coordination of meetings, minute taking, manage assigned actions and follow-ups and project status reporting
  • Liaise closely with key internal and external stakeholders, building and maintaining productive and effective channels of communication, addressing priorities, and resolving urgent and sensitive matters promptly and appropriately
  • Implement systems and processes for measuring and reporting project metrics and outcomes, enabling project deliverables and holding stakeholders to account for delivery to time and budget as appropriate to ensure all project objectives are met (or are re-forecasted and reported accordingly)
  • Ensure internal and external stakeholders are informed and project matters are communicated as required
  • Utilise additional support as required to ensure workshops and events for the project are facilitated as required
  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with key contacts within Faculty and across the University, as required and liaise with key contacts to ensure effective consultation and collaboration
  • Comply with relevant professional standards and codes of ethics and EEO and WHS regulations

About You

To succeed in this position, you will have proven project management experience, and a keen eye for detail to ensure high quality deliverables are met within budget and to time. You will be skilled in all elements of project management and will be able to demonstrate your superior communication and stakeholder management expertise.

You are someone who has a deep knowledge of and experience using project methodologies within large and complex work environments. You take pride in managing multiple projects and tasks, and meeting competing deadlines and changing priorities by using sound judgement and initiative. With an aptitude for engaging and sustaining effective stakeholder relationships, you possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and thrive working in a collaborative environment.

  • Experience leading, managing and developing a diverse, high performing and service-oriented team;
  • Experience building and sustaining strong stakeholder partnerships to successfully deliver projects;
  • Knowledge of industry accreditations and how they deliver on ACPDE objectives;
  • Knowledge of how data analysis and insights can best inform teaching, learning and research outcomes.
